Station Upgrade

Structural repairs and improvements were implemented to the rail bridge and station in Port Adelaide. First constructed in the early 1900s, it was in need of extensive steel repair both plate and structural, and the platform height need to be raised to allow for modern passenger trains. This was achieved by the installation of new structural steel over the existing steelwork. Further to this, linear bearings under the bridge spans were replaced. In order for this work to be carried out 20 metre sections of the bridge were jacked up some 300mm using a synchronised lift system to gain access to the bearings.

On completion of the structural repairs, the passenger station was upgraded by way of new shelters, balustrades and safety screening. The project was carried out in a timely and scheduled fashion so as to allow access to all other trades involved in the upgrade. Project Value: $2,800,000

Murray River Vehicle Ferries

Three new 25 metre hydraulically driven vehicle ferries were constructed for the Murray River at a projects cost of $9 million. MG Engineering not only undertook the fabrication and outfitting of the ferries but also were the primary contractor and project management. All work was carried out to meet all relevant regulatory bodies involved with the vessels. Careful consideration and planning were taken to minimise impact on the ferry services at the time of vessel commissioning and also in the vessel design to minimise noise emissions on the river. Project Value: $9,500,000

SANTOS Out-Loading Facility

Structural Repairs to Out-Loading Wharf Head

The Existing structural members of main spans were detected from long term exposure to the marine environment. Repairs were required to keep the facility in service. Restricted access meant all repairs needed to be carried out offstaging suspended below and around the structure some 10 meters below sea level. As the facility was still in operation all precautions and safety measures were implemented to avoid any incidents and to allow out-loading of products to continue. Project Value: $900,000

Stern Sections

MG were contracted to build a stern section for Port Lincoln Marine Services. The stern section was 22 metres long and weighed 110 tonne. The section was completed and towed to Port Lincoln. The towing took 24 hours, and once at Port Lincoln Marine Services shipyard, was fitted to the other sections that had been built in Port Lincoln. The finished product was a 50 metre $25,000,000.00 trawler.

Boat Construction

MG launched the "Liberty" for Compass Rose Fishing Pty Ltd. This vessel was 22 metres long with a beam of 7.5 metres, 500mm wider than a normal vessel. This was to cater for the boat fishing in Gulf Carpentaria. The finished vessel was immaculate and is now known as the best vessel in the fleet in terms of quality work and design.
