MG Engineering is well known in the Defence Industry for the diversified scope of steel work it has supplied for the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) project. The company recently undertook a contract for the DSTO Edinburgh site to fit an existing steel lined bomb blast chamber with new steel.

Major project for the AWDs:

Stern Tubes

Complete Manufacture of AWD ships Stern Tubes rolled from 16mm plate to a diameter of 1 meter with a tolerance of +- 2mm. All Welding was 100 % N.D.T.

Ducting for Uptake/Intakes

MG Engineering was required to develop & fabricate large scale square to rounds and many larger diameter ducts for turbine exhausts. We profile cut, formed and welded ducts from stainless steel 321, 316 and 304 as well as ducts from black & galvanised mild steel material.


MG Engineering built all fairleads on the Destroyer. The biggest one was cast from duplex and welded to supported foundations from DH36. The smaller ones were fabricated from grade 316 stainless steel and lined with 40mm rubber.

Turbine railing system

MG Engineering formed and fabricated the AWD turbine railing system from heavy gauged aluminium profiles (photo rail aluminium).

Stainless STEEL helicopter hangar doors railing

MG Engineering fabricated and welded Telescopic Railing from thick stainless plate with internal plastic sliding plates.
